Why Your IPL Hair Removal Device Might Fail And How to Fix It

Sep 14, 2025 Aolemon
You bought an IPL hair removal device hoping for smooth skin, but now it’s not working as expected—maybe it won’t emit light, shuts off unexpectedly, or gives uneven results. Before you return it, most issues stem from incorrect use, not a faulty device. Let’s break down common problems, why they happen, and how to fix them using the Hand-held IPL Hair Removal Device (Model: AOLEMON-AO608B) as a reference.

Problem 1: Device won’t turn on or emit light

This is one of the most frustrating issues, but the fix is often simple.

Check the power supply: Ensure the device is properly connected to the included power adapter (it only works with the original one!) and the power cord isn’t damaged. If the cord is frayed, don’t use it—contact customer service for a replacement.

Another cause? Overheating or poor skin contact. If the device shut down due to overheating (it auto-shuts off after 30 minutes of continuous use), let it cool down in a ventilated place for 20 minutes. For light emission issues, make sure the light outlet is fully pressed against the skin—no contact means no flash (the contact indicator must light up!).

Problem 2: Uncomfortable sensation or skin redness

Mild warmth or tingling is normal, but pain or severe redness means you’re making a mistake. First, did you shave? Unshaven hair longer than 1mm absorbs heat, causing irritation—shave the area first. If you did shave, check the energy level: First-time users should start at Level 1. If you jumped to a higher level, lower it and do a patch test. Also, avoid using the device on sensitive areas (like mucous membranes or recent surgical sites)—it’s prohibited for these spots, and ignoring that leads to discomfort.

Problem 3: Unsatisfactory hair removal results

If you’re not seeing less hair, ask yourself three questions.

1. Are you using the right mode? The device has modes for Facial, Body, Underarm, and Sensitive Areas—using the wrong one (e.g., Body Mode on the face) reduces effectiveness.

2. Is your hair color compatible? The device doesn’t work on white, gray, blonde, or red hair—light can’t target these follicles.

3. Are you consistent? Hair regrowth is suppressed over time—follow the recommended cycle (once a month or every 2 weeks) for at least 6 months.

Skipping sessions or treating non-adjacent areas leads to uneven results.

Problem 4: Device overheats and shuts down automatically

This is a safety feature, not a flaw. The device shuts off after 30 minutes of continuous use to prevent damage. If it happens mid-treatment, turn it off, let it cool down for 20 minutes, then resume. Also, never block the air vent—this traps heat and causes frequent shutdowns. Clean the vent regularly to keep airflow smooth.

Most IPL hair removal issues are avoidable with proper use. The Hand-held IPL Hair Removal Device has clear safeguards and instructions to prevent these problems, but knowing how to troubleshoot ensures you get consistent, effective results.
